HTC’s Flagship model HTC U11 and U11 Plus hit the android market in 2017. It might not be wrong to say that this is the best phone ever crafted by HTC with unique design language. The U11 got some pretty sweet features like full water resistant, stereo speakers, awesome display, and much more. U11 is powered by Snapdragon 835 chip along with 4GB or 6GB of Ram and Adreno 540 GPU. Just like the Ram, U11 allows you 64 or 128GB onboard storage which can be expanded using micro SD card. We know this a phone from last year but let us highlight some features out of it.
The first thing that draws your attention towards HTC U11 is the stylish and reflecting back. HTC has opted for something new and extravagant. The back glass is protected by curved Gorilla Glass 5 which makes the phone comfortable in your hand. The glass is coated with reflective minerals that give premium look. However, the downside is that you have to take care of the finger marks every time you touch the phone. Well leaving your marks on the back is not the only thing as the phone might slip out of your hand as well. Therefore it is advisable to use some kind of back cover to avoid such accidents.
HTC U11 comes with 5.5” Super LCD 5 display with 1440X2160 pixels and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. On the top of it rests the 16 Megapixels front camera which does not has any OIS or autofocus feature. On the bottom, there is Home button along with navigation buttons. Home screen button also acts as a fingerprint sensor. Underneath are the mic, speaker slot and USB-C port and this is the only port on the phone since there is no slot for the 3.5mm headphone jack. On the top of the phone are micro SD slot and noise cancellation microphone.
Squeeze your Phone to get more features
Yes, you heard that right. The edges of the phone are embedded with pressure sensors. So when the pressure is applied the phone will perform a pre-set shortcut or action. You can set applications depending upon the short or long squeeze. The U11’s Sense UI is the leanest and closest to stock android you have ever seen it. The HTC’s companion app offers the predictive suggestions that complement the Google Assistance functionalities. It learns more about you the more you use your phone.
HTC U11 comes with 3000mAh battery with Quick charge 3.0 feature. And believe it or not the battery life on U11 is pretty decent. The battery might last a full day unless you are a heavy power user. Thumbs up to Quick charge 3.0 technology that recharges the phone from dead to 50% in 30 minutes.
The HTC U11’s camera is a 12 Megapixels sensor with Dual-Pixel Autofocus, Optical image stabilization and F/1.75 aperture, and Dual-LED flash. HTC was really hyped about the camera at the launch event. And surprisingly, the U11 takes amazing shots with balanced colors and tones. The camera quality is detailed and crisp. The HDR mode or HDR boost in camera works somehow similar to the ones we saw in Google Pixel versions.
Selfies with 16 Megapixels on the front of HTC U11 look great. In any lighting conditions, you will get stunning selfies. However, it would have been better if HTC had introduced the autofocus in the front shooter.
Low light performance is also great on U11. Its F/1.75 aperture makes it compete with the Samsung Galaxy S8. HDR mode on Auto settings will increase the ISO to climb more than 1000 which will create noise. So it is better to shut those setting if you want a good night shot. Well, the selfies in the low light conditions aren’t bad but they do expose some noise depending upon the light conditions.
HTC U11 can record videos at 4K. Its dual focus allows you to refocus sudden change in the subject while recording videos. Two features exclusive to HTC are its 3D sound recording. Technically we cannot say its 3D because audio is still being recorded in stereo. But what stands out from the rest is the new acoustic feature which reacts according to your distance from the source. So if you zoom in while making the video of a source producing sound, you will hear the sound more clearly while playing the video.
HTC U11 is not something like an iPhone or Galaxy but it is more promising in terms of features. Although it hasn’t got the respect it deserves in the war going between smartphone companies. But this is the best phone that might get HTC back in the market. It stands at a price similar to iPhone 7 at $650(HTC U11 price in Pakistan PKR 66,000). With an unmatched experience, excellent performing camera and the unique attention-grabbing design from the back, HTC U11 is sure to satisfy the photographer and music lover inside you.
